May 5, 1955 – May 28, 2025
It is with unimaginable sadness that the family of Kevin Bruce Furber announces his passing at the age of 70 years old. Dad passed away on May 28th, 2025, with his beloved children and sisters by his side.
Dad was born in Smeaton, Saskatchewan, on May 5th, 1955, to Lance (Murphy) and Edna Furber. He was the youngest of his siblings, Donald, Luann, and Dianne. Growing up in Smeaton, Dad developed his deep love for animals (especially horses), which remained with him for the rest of his life. He attended elementary school at Smeaton School until the Furber family relocated to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in 1966, where he finished the remainder of his schooling. After high school, Dad began working for the CN, where he worked for 24 years. After leaving the CN, Dad went into the horse business, where he was able to combine his passion with his work.
Dad was truly a jack-of-all-trades; he enjoyed many different careers throughout his life. He spent many years in the trucking industry and particularly enjoyed his employment with J & L Enterprises in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, where he greatly valued the many friendships and connections he made in the community.
Dad was a cowboy. He was an avid rodeo enthusiast and had a great love for roping. He spent much of his younger days rodeoing, entering jackpots, and working with horses. A highlight for Dad was racing chuckwagons at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. He attended the Oklahoma Horse Shoeing School and was certified as a farrier. His rodeo days were truly some of his fondest memories, and you could always count on Dad to share a story from those times.
Dad also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, reading (westerns, of course!), grabbing a coffee and going for a drive, and sitting down for a visit and a laugh with good friends and family.
Above all else, Dad was a family man. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, sisters, nephew, and great-nephew.
Dad’s only downfall was his taste in women.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Lance (Murphy) and Edna Furber, and his brother Donald Furber.
Dad is survived by his son Levi (Kendra) Furber and their children Nora and Myer; his daughter Tara (Viktor) Felix; his son Cole (Sarah) Furber and their children Maebry, Ruby, and Fawn; his sister Luann Furber; his sister Dianne Furber; his nephew Chad Novak and his great-nephew Vaughn Novak.
We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kaler at the Legends Medical Clinic in Warman, Saskatchewan, and the staff at the Rosthern Hospital in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, for taking excellent care of Dad.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Dad will forever be remembered for his quick wit, his storytelling, and his ability to land the perfect one-liner. We’ll miss his humour, his fun-loving nature, and the easy way he made everyone feel at home. We’ll see you at the rodeo, Dad.
