Kenneth Alfred “Ken” Willoughby
(September 1, 1936 – November 2, 2011)
With peaceful serenity, Ken Willoughby returned home on Nov. 2, 2011. Our father and grandfather demonstrated an exemplary character of honesty and gentleness. A true prairie boy, Dad was born in Parkside, SK on Sept. 1, 1936. After graduating high school in Shellbrook, he moved to Melfort and eventually began a 35-year career as a soil technician with the Melfort Research Station.
Dad is survived by a proud legacy of children and grandchildren, including Keith (Leanne) and Mark; Kevin (Carol) and Jarom, Channelle, Tiana, Thomas and Dallin; Michael (Amy) and Spencer, Joseph, Jayna and Bella; and Melinda (John) and Coral, Jessamyn, Kellen, Syrus, Kylie, Skye and Caden.
He was predeceased by parents Godfrey and Gertrude, brothers Raymond and Walter as well as two infant brothers, and grandson Jonathon Chubak.
Despite physical struggles, Dad loved life. He cheered thunderously for his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders and Melfort Mustangs, and proudly travelled to Bern, Switzerland in 1997 to witness the triumph of Sandra Schmirler’s team at the women’s world curling championship. Whether it was volunteering with the Lions Club or driving those with visual impairments to appointments, Dad dedicated his days to helping others. We truly grieve our loss but celebrate his memory. His legacy will forever light our lives.
