It is with great sadness that Ken’s family announces his sudden passing at home on July 19, 2011. Ken was the oldest of four siblings. His childhood years were spent in Saskatoon where he attended Caswell School. He attended high school at Bedford Road and finished at Mount Royal Collegiate. Ken was an extremely talented individual. He was an active sportsman playing golf, hockey, fastball, an avid hunter, snowmobiler, curler and loved fishing. He was a long-time member of the Saskatoon Mixer Hockey Club. Ken met the love of his life, Judy, when she was 14 and he was 16. They were married in August of 1967. They had their only son, Wallace, in 1979. He was a long-time member of the Bridge City Cosmo Club for 33 years, serving as president and a variety of other positions. Ken was an accomplished carpenter, pilot and general handyman. He developed a fly-in fishing camp and flew in patrons in his own plane. He worked as the Sales Manager for McGill’s Dust Control for 31 years. In 2001, Ken and Judy moved to Emma Lake and turned their long-time cabin into their permanent residence. He was a councilor for the R.M. of Lakeland, a director for both the Lakeland Curling Club and Snowmobile Club. He loved hunting and fishing and took part in a variety of community events.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Judy; son Wallace (Montserrat); brothers Ron (Barb) and Jim (Bonnie); sister Elsie (Ken) Poff; sisters-in law Sandra Meyers and Wendy (Gene) Hartman and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents Wes and Connie. He was a great individual who will be sorely missed by his many relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Christopher Lake Legion Hall. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to either the Lakeland Snowmobile Club or the Lakeland Curling Club or a charity of donor’s choice.
