Kenneth Gordon Thompson
Sadly we announce the passing of our kind, generous, and loving father, friend, and grandfather Ken G Thompson. He passed away peacefully in hospital on Tuesday March 5th at the age of 79. Ken was predeceased by his wife Anne of 54 years, in 2011. He is survived by son Gord (Donna) Thompson of Prince Albert; daughters Terry Thompson (Ross Smillie) of Lacombe, Alberta, and Patty Thompson (Frank Kemeri) of Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren Duncan, Lauren and Erin Thompson; Sara and Sean Smillie; and Anna and Aidan Kemeri. Ken is survived by sister Beth (Keith) Coviello, and brother Bill (Pat) Thompson; sisters-in-law Jean (Gavin) Hamilton, Joyce Brack, Ruth Lauscher, Gail (Don) Guidinger, Marie Haight; brother-in-law Murray (Marge) Haight and many nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad met while working for International Harvester in Saskatoon and were married in 1957. The family lived in many locations across Saskatchewan and Alberta during his career with International Harvester. In 1965, Ken joined the family business, Moker and Thompson, and opened a new branch in Shellbrook. Their six years in Shellbrook, were a very special time for the whole family, as they made life long friends. In 1971, they settled in Prince Albert. For the rest of Ken’s career he owned and operated the dealership in Prince Albert, and looked forward to going to work each day until his retirement in 1994. Ken and Anne loved being active in the community, and proudly participated in service clubs, committees, and boards. Their special place was Waskesiu, and they filled their summers with golfing, and being with family and friends. Dad’s greatest joy was participating in family activities, and the love and support he gave to his family will be sorely missed. He had a special connection and interest in the lives of each of his grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by parents Gordon and Viola Thompson; sister-in-law Muriel Imrie; and brothers-in-law Alan Haight, Bob Brack, and David Imrie. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary United Church in Prince Albert (114-25 St East) at 11am Wednesday March 13, 2013, Rev. Nora Vedress officiating. Reception at the church to follow. Private committal will take place at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279-3 Ave North, Saskatoon, SK.
