Keith “Corky” Booker
July 18, 1928 – December 26, 2014
During the stillness of Christmas, Keith “Corky” Booker left us on Dec. 26 2014, at age 86 after a rapid decline with heart disease, to join his family in heaven. Corky was born July 18, 1928 at Lost River, near South Allan, SK. As a toddler, Corky moved with his family to the Sturgeon River, SK district where the family developed its homestead. Due to the conditions of that era, Corky was unable to complete high school. He worked as a farm-hand for various families in the district, becoming close friends over the years. Following that, he began his life of manual labour with the DNR, in the forestry, road construction & lumber industries. He valued his years in the north & spoke fondly of those times. He was drawn back to his agricultural roots when he bought & broke land, farming for numerous years near Delaronde Lake. Corky loved to read, visit, & joke! He spent years as a fan of the Prince Albert Raiders. He & his brother Bill spent considerable time together & enjoyed many road trips on the Raiders’ fan bus! It was shortly after a holiday to Hawaii with Bill when Corky decided to move to PA, end his bachelor years, & take up dating. After one significant “Minus One” dance, Corky was smitten with Vera Mitchell. They were married in 1988 & were inseparable ever after! They enjoyed dancing, holding hands, walking wherever they needed to go, & participating in the seniors’ community events. In 2010 they moved to Good Shepherd Villa, loving their new home, wonderful care, & extended “family”. After losing Vera in Apr. 2014, Corky continued to appreciate activities, discussing current events/politics, & visiting with family/friends in his home. As Christmas approached Corky became tired & lonely, wishing to be with Vera. Keith will be missed by his siblings Margaret von Eschen, Terry (Paulette) Booker & Norma Pritchard, many nieces & nephews, cousins, his family at GSV, as well as numerous friends. He was predeceased by his parents (Frank & Grace), brother Bill Booker & sister Katherine MacDonald, brothers-in-law Robert von Eschen & Miles Pritchard, nieces & nephews, other in laws, & recently, his precious wife Vera. You are invited to share in the Memorial Service celebrating Corky’s life on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 – 11:00 am at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Street East. Memorial donations may be made to the Prince Albert Community Clinic, 110 8th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0V7. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
