It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Katherine Darlene Alto (nee Falardeau), late of Shellbrook, SK formerly of Hague, SK, on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, at the age of 70 years. Katherine was born on February 18th, 1953, to Joseph & Hazel Falardeau, in Hudson Bay SK.
In Kathy’s early years, she lived in Hudson Bay, SK then moved to Outlook, SK to live with her Grandma Lois Dickson. This is where she met the love of her life of 53 years, John. They were married on June 28th,1969 at the Birsay United Church in Birsay, SK. They had 3 children, who they raised in Birsay, SK.
One of Kathy’s pride and joys was owning Birsay Kitchen, where people would come from all over for her home-cooked meals and baking; that was loved by all. Anyone who knew Kathy knew about her passion for baking, which always brought a smile to her face.
One of Kathy’s passions in life was her beautiful flower gardens in Birsay, SK. Her love of flowers continued to the end with her small garden/flower patch in Shellbrook at the nursing home. She was so very proud of her accomplishment.
Kathy had a very creative side to her when she was not gardening or baking you could find her in her woodworking shop, working on one of her many projects.
She was a loving, devoted wife to the love of her life, John. When he become ill with West Nile, Kathy never left his side. She never faltered and always made sure John had the best quality of life no matter the circumstances. Their love was a bond that could not be broken.
When John passed last August, Kathy relocated to the Shellbrook Nursing Home. Kathy touched many lives, making lots of friends with the residents and the staff alike. She enjoyed participating in the many activities; bingo, crafting, painting, and making puzzles. She took pride in her room with her many angels and personal touches.
