June Marie Hawrish was born on April 24, 1954, and passed away with her family by her side on November 16, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born in Kinistino, SK to George and Avis Folland, she was the oldest of 3 surviving children. She grew up on the farm north of Kinistino and attended Weldon School and Birch Hills High School, graduating from Grade 12 in 1972.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ray, on August 12, 1972, and began her journey as a farm wife and mother. June was a true partner to Ray. She was very proud of the fact that they farmed for 40 years. She cooked meal after meal, ran to town for parts (as many farm wives can relate!), grew a large garden in the earlier years, canned and baked. Always with the intent to nurture those in her circle and always with a cup of coffee or room for another plate at her table. No one was leaving her table hungry.
For the first 16 years of their marriage, June was a stay-at-home mom to Rhonda. This gift they shared created an inseparable bond.
June started her health-care career in 1989 when she took her Special Care Aide Course (now known as Continuing Care Assistant) and it was a natural fit. Always a caregiver and putting others before herself, she made such a difference in so many lives. She was proud of the work she did and understood the importance of preserving dignity and respect for the residents in her care. After working as a Special Care Aide actively for 25 years, she officially retired in 2019.
In her younger years she enjoyed 4-H, gymkhana, rodeos and playing softball with the ladies at Liberty Hall. She loved to write poems and often would be asked to provide a special piece for someone’s anniversary or birthday. June loved to dance and travel. She and Ray travelled by motorcycle with their treasured friends every summer while they had the chance. They also enjoyed trips to Nashville, New Orleans and several trips to Florida with their precious family.
Family was everything and she made sure to instill that sense of duty and belonging in her beloved grandsons, Grayson and Jordan. She was also blessed with a very strong friend group and made sure to foster those relationships, many of which were life-long. Not everyone has such good fortune.
Simple pleasures were appreciated and savored by June. Going on a ‘crop tour’, listening to the radio, sitting in peace and quiet at the farm, enjoying her beautiful deck, reading a good book and watching the hummingbirds. These were all things that brought her joy and peace. It’s a special thing to be able to recognize and appreciate the gifts you’ve been given.
June had some health problems over the past 23 years. Her family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. LeRoux for her exceptional care during these difficult times. June approached these challenges with grace and strength doing what she could and accepting what she couldn’t. Not one to complain, she continued to show us what it meant to take joy where she could and to make your time count by spending it with those who mean the most to you.
Her last six weeks were spent at Victoria Hospital and the care provided by the nurses, staff and doctors of Level 5 was second to none. Even in this situation she made friends and connections with those involved in her care. Kindred spirits are the caregivers of this world and how thankful we are for all of them.
June is survived by her husband of 53 years, Raymond Hawrish; daughter, Rhonda (Dale) Neufeld; grandsons, Grayson Neufeld and Jordan Neufeld; brother, Gary Folland; sister, Brenda Folland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daren & Patty Hawrish; sister-in-law, Ada Hawrish; nephew, Len Hawrish and niece, Karla Hayworth (daughters Chiara and Bryndin); brother-in-law, Doug Hawrish; aunt, Norma Dahl; and special cousins Leroy (Diane) Shier and Betty (Paul) Braaten.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Avis Folland; two infant brothers, Wayne and Harley; parents-in-law Bernard and Ada Hawrish; brother-in-law, Lorry Hawrish; uncle, Dennis Dahl; aunt, Esther Shier; grandparents, Ernest & Hjordis Dahl and Jacob and Josephine Folland.
