With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our wife, mom, grandma, auntie and friend. With family by her side, June Alexander passed away on December 28, 2025, in the Rosetown hospital, at the age of 87.
Mom was born in the Eston Hospital on June 5th, 1938, to Marshall and Ruby Mercer. She was the youngest of five siblings and grew up in Wartime, Saskatchewan. On July 10th, 1959, she married Dave Alexander and together they raised three children: Jeff, Janet and Scott. Mom, Dad and family lived in Rosetown, Prince Albert and Cranbrook, B.C, before settling south of Greenan, SK, when they took over the family farm in 1977.
Mom was a life force. She loved people, visiting, and especially going for coffee and skinny fries with ‘the chicks’ at Sam’s. She was always on the go and it was often said ‘there’s no way you’re 87!’ (Which she loved).
Mom kept in touch regularly with relatives and friends throughout Saskatchewan, B.C. and Scotland, some for over sixty years! She was a wonderful cook and we were spoiled with her meals and baking. However…in the last few years you would often hear her say ‘I hate cooking, let’s go out!’ Mom was a true animal lover, so if you were a cat who wandered onto the farm, you’d hit the jackpot! She loved and selflessly cared for dozens of cats over the years.
One of Mom’s greatest joys was spending time with her granddaughter Alana. Their bond was beautiful. Alana made many trips to see her grandparents over the years. Their visits and phone calls always ended with ‘love you more!’
Mom was loved by many and will be missed greatly. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dave, daughter Jan Hiebert (Steve), son Scott Alexander, granddaughters Alana Toles (Dawson Sayese) and Rachelle Toles (Andrew Magwood-Dufour),and many amazing nieces, nephews and their spouses. She is also survived by her good friends Sheila Hiebert, Gail Bevill, Carman and Dave Bartley, Carol Wingham, Max Fersch, Velma Irvine, and her wonderful angel on earth, Brenda Elliot, who phoned Mom every day, drove to the farm to do her hair, and was always there for coffee, lunch and laughs.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Ruby and Marshall, siblings Carman, Maxine, Billy and Eloise, her son Jeff, and of course many well loved cats.
Our family wishes to thank all the friends, neighbors and relatives for their kind words, support and love, delivery of meals, help with transportation, plowing out the farmyard and all offers of assistance. We also want to say a huge thank you to Dr. Pahwa, Rosetown Home Care staff and the amazing, compassionate nurses and staff of the Rosetown hospital.
At Mom’s request there will not be a funeral. Our family will gather to honour her life in the spring, at the Greenan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the SPCA, or perhaps take a friend for coffee or a meal and by all means insist on paying the bill as Mom always did.
We love you. Rest in Peace.
