Joyce SPENCE
November 18, 1923 – September 1, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Spence on September 1, 2017. Joyce was loved by all and enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren most of all. Joyce was one of 13 children born in Croydon, England to Arthur and Annie Driver. As a young girl, Joyce loved school and at 18, she enlisted and served in WWII. Joyce met her husband in WWII and when the war concluded she boarded the first boat of war brides and made the long trip to Canada. Moving from England to Canada was a huge culture shock for her, but she braved the winters in Red Deer Hill. Joyce and Lorne moved to Prince Albert where they had two children, Ken and Wendy Spence. Joyce taught kindergarten, and she loved to volunteer. She travelled with the Girl Guides of Canada, receiving her 50 year pin a few years ago. Joyce was always knitting and donating to the hospital, she loved being part of St George’s Church and attended Sunday service. Joyce worked for multiple law firms in Prince Albert before retiring to help raise her grandchildren. Joyce always looked forward to her trips back home to England to visit her family she so dearly missed. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her son Ken(Colleen) Spence; son-in-law Brian Connolly; sister Iris Parfitt; grandchildren Nicole(Jamie) Connolly, Jennifer Connolly, Tracey(Jason) Howe, Christopher Spence, Dylan Spence; great grandchildren Brooklyn, Danika, Jenna, Tanner, Maddison, Connor, Dallyn, Lennon and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her daughter Wendy Connolly; her father Arthur Driver; her mother Annie Driver; 11 siblings and her ex-husband Lorne Spence. A Private Graveside Service will be held. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
