The family of Josephine (Josie) Kosmynka are very sad to announce her peaceful passing on April 16, 2020 at Mont St. Joseph, Prince Albert SK. Josephine was born on August 30, 1923, on a farm in Tarnopol in rural Saskatchewan. Josephine worked with her Mom and younger sister, farming the land, raising livestock and planting a vegetable garden.
Josephine met Alex and married on June 5, 1949. They moved to and started their own farm just west of Birch Hills. They had a full functioning farm with livestock and grain fields. Both Josephine and Alex became part of the rural community along with their son Michael. They continued to farm as a family until they moved to Prince Albert in the mid 60’s. Josephine and Alex were married for over 60 Years until his passing in 2009.
They purchased their first home in Prince Albert. Josephine was always busy in her garden, along with cooking and making her wonderful Perogies and cabbage rolls. Her kitchen was always filled with hungry friends and family. Where her cooking and endless love was enjoyed by all.
Both Josephine and Alex continued to work until they both retired in the mid-80s to enjoy their new life with the freedom to travel.
Josephine is predeceased by her husband Alex, her parents Mary and Joseph Baycer, and sister Mary (Walter) Ozimirski.
Surviving are her only son Michael, daughter (-in-law) Lynn (Smith) and only grandson Ryan (Ontario), and niece Rita (Ted) Sperling.
Josephine was always so full of life and wit, you could always get her to smile and have fun.
Josephine lived at Mont St Joseph for the last 10 years, it was her home and we are so grateful for the loving and gentle care that her extended family of caregivers and nurses always gave her. She was affectionately called Baba by most who knew her at the home.
There is so much more to her life than the few words we can put here. She was a loving Mother, Proud Grandmother and we will continue to love and will miss her dearly. May you rest in peace!
Due to circumstances beyond our control, there will be a private ceremony for family only.
Memorial donations in Josephine’s memory may be made to the Mont St. Joseph Foundation – 777 28 St E, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2
