Joseph Frank Viczko
(June 24, 1916 – September 10, 2011)
Dad passed away with family by his side after a month of poor health. Our Dad went to be with his Lord and Saviour on September 10, 2011.
Dad is survived by his children: Yvonne Choquette, Donna Boots (Ron), David Viczko (Jennifer) and grandchildren, Graham, Elliott, Justin, Ryan, Everett, Nadia, Richard (Sudyin), Jessica (Karl), and great grandchildren, Kiera, Benjimen and Shane, numerous nieces and nephews, his sisters Madge Foss and Kathleen St. Pierre (Roger), sisters-in-law Madeleine, Shirley, and Lani. Dad was predeceased by mom, Anne Wandzura, parents Eva and Joe, sisters Annie, Rose, Theresa, Marion, Trudy, and brothers, Les, Tom, Tony, and Bernie.
Dad was the eldest son of twelve children. He gave many stories about growing up on the farm with his family and many close relatives. Dad lived a long, satisfied, and amazing life. In 1939 he built the barn which today still stands. It was his pride and he loved talking about how it was built. Dad farmed and worked at Surf Inlet, BC in the 1940's.
In 1954, Dad married Mom, who he met while out working on the land. They settled on the home quarter in the Bremen district. Dad provided the best opportunities for his three children and loved the farm. Every animal was his friend and there were always pets. He especially loved harvest and even in his 90's rode in the combine.
Dad had many eras in his lifetime. He and Mom bought a new home and retired in Wakaw when he was 70, but he was soon back into full time farming, driving daily to the farm, putting in long hours just to farm. At the age of 80, Dad bought a home in Cudworth, where he continued to live on his own. His independence was his greatest wish.
He enjoyed his garden, auction sales, outings with good friends and going to church. Dad never left farming and continued farm visits, where he loved seeing his dog. At the age of 94, Dad enjoyed a plane ride over the farm. Dad was a tender hearted father who never strayed from loyalty to God, the farm, family, goodness, and church. He loved his family. His latest pride and joy was a new great grandson, Shane or to him…Junior. Dad loved him and held him numerous times in his last month. Dad continued to enjoy life this summer. In June he celebrated his 95th birthday by hosting, with his good friend Alex, over 35 friends and relatives, young and old, in his own home.
He enjoyed celebrating his granddaughter, Jessica's graduation, attending his friend, Bob's party, and local parades. He attended the St. Lazlo Reunion two days before entering the hospital. Dad's faithfulnesss to his family and his Lord and Saviour will be forever remembered.
A Service will be held on Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 pm and the Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 16th at 11:00 am. Both services will be held at the Faith Community Church in Wakaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Community Church, Wakaw, SK.
