Joseph “Joe” Roman Uhlik – devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter, on October 25, 2022, at the age of 88 years, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Joe was born in Prince Albert, SK, on May 15, 1934, to Joseph and Vera (née Maluka) Uhlik. He married the love of his life Shirley Bruneau in 1968. Together they created a loving and happy family home where they raised their daughter Annette.
Joe was a hard worker, he started his first job at a young age, running film reels from the Strand Theater to the Orpheum Theater in downtown Prince Albert, SK. His love of films inspired him to continue his long career as a Projectionist, working at the Strand Theater, Orpheum Theater, Pines Drive Inn, Nor-Lite Drive-In and Cinema Four. At the age of 18 he started his career at Burns Meat Packing Plant, where he worked until it’s closure in 1976. He then started his 25-year career at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in various positions.
Anyone who knew Joe was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He was truly a peacemaker and was always a source of positivity. He will truly be missed.
Joe is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Annette (Claude) St. Germaine; his granddaughter, Carisa Hendrix; his grandsons, Michael (Sajal) Hendrix and Claude (Frances) St. Germaine; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Olive (Mervin) Lokken, Liliane (Real) Ouellette, Terri (Daryle) Bruneau, Delores Bruneau, Fabian (Vivian) Bruneau, Madeline (Reginald) Bruneau, Kevin (Pearl) Bruneau; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph John & Vera (Maluka) Uhlik; a brother in infancy, Victor Uhlik; his father-in-law, Phillip Bruneau; his mother-in-law, Albertine (Arcand) Bruneau; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Bruneau, Jules Bruneau & Ricky Ross; his sister-in-law, Rita (Bruneau) Ross; nephews, Harold Lokken & Alden Ross; his niece, Dena Bruneau; his great-nephew, Rylan Harris; and many dear friends.
The Family would like to thank the amazing team at Prince Albert Home Care for the loving care they provided to Joe and the support they provided to his Family. You made it possible for us to keep him at home. We will forever be grateful. We would also like to thank Dr. Cecil Hammond and Dr. Yogi Hammond for your care and support.
