Joseph August Merasty “Augie” was born on Sunday, January 6, 1929, in Pelican Narrows, SK and passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 88 years. August is the author (with David Carpenter) of the book “The Education of Augie Merasty – A Residential School Memoir”. August is survived by his loving family, his children and grandchildren, Ralph’s daughter, Suzy Castillo, Joanne Merasty (Donnie Bell) and her children, Jennifer (3 boys) and Tara (1 son), Gilbert Merasty (4 boys, 2 girls), Patsy’s children, Alexandra Merasty (1 daughter), Hillary Morin, and Preston Merasty (1 son, 1 daughter), Glen Merasty and his daughter, Stacey Lee Sanderson, Thomas Merasty (mother of his children, Geraldine) and their children, Jason Merasty (Tammy) (1 son) and Leonard Thomas Merasty (1 son), Johnny Merasty, Catherine Merasty and her daughter, Ronalda Cook (Clyde Cook) (1 daughter), Arlene Merasty and her children, Shandi Merasty (2 sons), Jessica Bird (John Starblanket) (1 daughter), and Caitlyn Bird, and Elton Merasty (3 children), as well as his sisters, Cecilia Merasty, Gertrude Montgrand and Anne Merasty. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marie Merasty, his brothers and sisters, Adelaide Merasty, Veronique Morin, Thomas Merasty, Napoleon Merasty, David Merasty, Catherine Connor and Angelique McKay, his wife, Agnes Merasty (nee Morin), and his children, Ralph Merasty, Patsy Merasty, Vincent Merasty and Sandra Merasty. A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Senator Allan Bird Centre in Prince Albert, SK. August’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Senator Allan Bird Centre in Prince Albert, SK, Father Michael Fahlman officiating.
