Joseph "Joe" Konias

At age 92, Joe Konias passed away peacefully on the sunny morning of October 8, 2025. Joe is beloved by his wife of 71 years, Violet; children, Cindy (Carl) Moslenko, Peggy (Bob) Burke, Kim (Wynne) Konias, Tammy (Rich) Phaneuf; 10 married grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Joe is unforgettable. He always had a story or joke to tell, often without filter, and always unapologetically himself. He was the king of one-liners. If only we had a nickel for every time he met “Joe you’re looking good” with “looking good was never my problem”. Joe loved to laugh, and ensured others did too.
Joe was a go-getter. Whether curling, golfing, cooking, travelling or adding to his many collections, Joe took on hobbies with enthusiasm. He spent countless days picking blueberries, only to give them to us. Even getting lost in the bush a time or two didn’t deter him. When Joe wanted a cabin at Candle Lake, SK, he built three. He feared no project, qualified or not. Somehow, Joe figured it out. He was an adventurer. On a trip to the far north Joe met soapstone artists. So appreciative of their talents he lugged home carvings for all of us. They are cherished.
As Joe told it, he spotted Vi, the prettiest girl at a wedding dance, in Paddockwood, SK. They married in 1954 and settled in Prince Albert, SK for nearly 60 years. They travelled abroad, but were happiest at home, playing cards, fishing, cruising in his 1963 Mercury Monterey convertible, and, of course, berry picking. Early morning A & W coffee sessions were rarely missed.
Joe was generous and thoughtful, and worked hard to give us more than we needed. Joe was proudest of his family, often marveling at its generations saying, “Vi, look what two people did”. Indeed, we are a family full of love.
Joe and Vi moved to Diamond House in Warman, SK in 2022. Joe flourished there, endearing himself to staff and residents alike. When he arrived, Joe hollered “Hello Joe” to a room full. They quickly understood they were to respond with the same greeting, and it became his signature entrance. Ever the social butterfly, Joe (and we) appreciated all who visited him. Our family has immense gratitude for the care team at Diamond House who showed Joe the compassion, dignity, and love he so deserved.
Recently Joe said, “It’s not that I’m afraid of dying, I just like living too much”. And live he did, in the best possible way. Rest well.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes no service will be held. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Joe may be directed to http://www.heartandstroke.ca.
