Joseph James “Jim” Bonin
March 27, 1941 ~ March 15, 2020
Jim was born in a little farmhouse near Blaine Lake, SK. In his younger years his family moved to Davis, SK. He started his work career when his father got him a job with C.N. Rail building railroad trestles throughout the small towns of Saskatchewan. This is when he met the love of his life Genevieve Lukan in Humboldt, SK. They married in 1961 and started a life in Prince Albert. He also discovered his lifelong passion for cars, attending school in Moose Jaw, SK and gaining his journeyman auto body certificate in 1961. Throughout the years he built numerous street rods and projects for himself, his friends, family and business and loved to attend car shows, rod runs and add to his vast collection of trophies and awards. Jim was a true craftsman and loved lending a hand to all his car buddies or just sitting down to shoot the breeze over a shot of rum.
Another passion of his was hunting, but his greatest passions were camping and fishing. Jim, Gen and family travelled to many destinations, but their favorite by far was Namekus Lake at which they spent over 50 summers. Family always came first and there was always a cozy campfire and great stories that we will cherish dearly. After Gen died in October of 2014, Jim found a genuine companion in Jackie Hobbs, who he loved to spend time with camping, bowling and going on trips to Mexico.
Jim was a very genuine soul who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
Jim is survived by his daughters Jeannine Hoey (Roger) and Jackie Bonin (Thomas); son Monty Bonin (Tiana); brothers Doug and Bob; sister Sarah; 10 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. We love and miss you Dad.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
A special thanks to Dr. Surkan and staff at the Victoria Hospital, Drew Gray for making this process as painless as possible as well as to the Shellbrook home care nurses. In lieu of tributes and donations to be made to Shellbrook Integrated Health Center whose kind compassionate care was well above and beyond to make Jim’s final journey as comfortable as possible. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel.
