Joseph Firman Desire Gaudet
(September 28, 1942 – September 3, 2011)
Joseph Firmin Desire Gaudet was better known to friends and family as Firmin Gaudet. Born September 28, 1942 and raised in the farming community of St. Isidore De Bellevue SK, Firmin left as a young man and enlisted for a brief time with the Canadian Air Force. In 1968, Firmin made his way to the Northwest Territories working for Esso Imperial Oil. He moved his wife, daughter and newborn son to Yellowknife in 1973 where he started a career in Powerline Construction. By 1975 he had become a Journeyman Lineman and by 1981 was Operations Manager of what is now Northland Utilities.
Firmin retired in 1998 and left the north in 2000. He would spend a few years in British Columbia with family before returning to Saskatchewan and eventually settling back in Bellevue. On September 3, 2011, Firmin lost his battle with Cancer and leaves behind many family and friends. Firmin will always be remembered as a hard worker and a man who loved to socialize and be around friends.
Firmin was predeceased by his parents Jacques and Elodi Gaudet, one brother, one sister, and one brother-in-law. He is survived by his son Martin (Antje) Gaudet of Okotoks, AB, his daughter Adelle (Daniel) Guigon of Yellow Knife, NWT, three grandchildren, five brothers, and three sisters.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church in Bellevue with Rev. Fr. Phong Tran as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Isidore Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Firmin may be directed to the Rosthern Hospital Memorial Fund.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw. 233-4403.
