Joseph Custer (Josăp) was born on Saturday, April 14, 1945 in Deschambault Lake, SK and passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 72 years. Joseph is survived by his loving family: his wife, Rachel I. Custer; his daughter, Jean V. Custer (Peter); his son, John Peter Custer; his step-son, Ron C. Ballantyne; his daughter-in-law, Heather J.B. Custer; his adopted daughters, Heather A. Beatty, Diana Beatty and Sherri Custer; his grandchildren, Joshua, Brian, Dawson, Alyssa, Terrilynn, Sherry, Angie, Natasha, Nikita, Jackson, Eric and Lakesha; his sisters, Kate McKay, Margaret H. and Susan (Peter) Ballantyne; his adopted sisters, Helen (Anson) Ballantyne, Alvina (Walter) McKenzie and Mary Jane (Trent) Dorion; his brothers, Harry (Stella) Custer, Thomas (Joan) Custer, Elias (Suzzette) Sewap and Ernest (Mary) Custer; his brother-in-law, Horace Ballantyne; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Isaac) Ballantyne and Freda Denego; his uncles, Alex McKenzie, Isaac McKenzie and Colin McKenzie; and his aunties, Flora Isbister and Rosie Cook; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Peter I. Custer; his mother, Jane C. Custer; his grandparents, Philip H. and Sally A. (nee Roberts) McKenzie; his sons, Albert C. Custer and two in infancy; his sisters, Elizabeth Eninew and Eliza McKenzie; his brother, Baby Thomas; his grandchildren and chapans, two in infancy, Baby Jenna, Baby Jamaris, Travis McKenzie, Carolann Custer, Baby Bear, Brennan E. Eninew, Baby Robillard, Arlene Ballantyne, Andy Ballantyne, Lyle Ballantyne, Tylin Bear and Baby Angel Bear; his aunties, Hannah Charles, Matilda Roberts and Angelique McKenzie; his uncles, Elias McKenzie, Johnny McKenzie, William McKenzie and George McKenzie; his brothers-in-law, Charlie McKay, George Eninew, Leslie McKenzie and Sammy Ballantyne; his sisters-in-law, Polly Ballantyne, Alice Ballantyne, Susan Harican and Jeanette Custer; and his nephews and nieces, Frances Ballantyne, Henry Eninew, Adam Eninew, Dominic McKenzie, Candace Roberts, Robin P. Custer, Melinda Eninew, Baby Ernest, Tommy McKenzie, May Florence McKay and Baby Custer. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at River Park Memorial Chapel. Wake services will he held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 and Sunday, October 1, 2017 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Deschambault Lake, SK. Joseph’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Deschambault Lake, SK, Bishop Adam Halkett and Reverend Elias Ballantyne officiating. Interment to follow at Deschambault Lake Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home in Prince Albert, SK, 306-764-2727, Carla Jesso, Funeral Director.
