With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, John Edward Tarasiuk, who took our Lord’s hand and went home to his eternal life on November 2, 2026. Waiting to welcome him home are his beautiful daughter, Amy Tarasiuk; his parents, Emma and Michael Tarasiuk; his sister, Cynthia (Cindy) Dryka; his niece, Corrine Tarasiuk; and his two pups, Happy and Molly. We will find comfort knowing he is reunited with those he loved so deeply, especially his precious daughter, Amy.
John was born on October 18, 1958, to Emma (Nykiforuk) and Michael Tarasiuk. He grew up in Prince Albert along with his 3 siblings Cindy, Lyle and Mary. In 1985, John was blessed with his most beautiful treasure, his daughter, Amy Nicole Tarasiuk. She brought him so much joy and was the light of his life.
In his younger years, John took swimming, piano and judo lessons, played hockey, and scuba dived. He worked very hard on the family farm gardening and even learning to become a bee keeper. His true passions from an early age were hunting and fishing – he was an avid hunter and fisherman, activities he shared throughout his life with many family and friends. He truly had a green thumb, something he inherited from his Mom, and tended an incredible rose garden as well as many other flowers and plants.
John became a journeyman carpenter and was well known for his extraordinary building skills. He took great pride in his work, particularly his custom-made furniture. Each piece was thoughtfully crafted with his own two hands, and he enjoyed gifting these to many people over the years. His attention to detail was evident in everything he built, including the family home in Martensville where he resided until his passing.
John retired from the Saskatoon Airport Authority in 2022. He made many valuable friendships there, and he always took time out of his busy day to greet friends and family to see them off or welcome them home as they travelled.
He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. He delighted in teasing and joking with everyone, and was a real prankster. Beneath that mischievous side was a very sensitive, kind man with a heart of gold.
John leaves behind to mourn his passing his grandsons, Carson, Gavin, Garrett, and Griffin; his brother, Lyle (Louise) Tarasiuk; his sister, Mary (Lonnie) Vermette; his brother-in-law, Bob Dryka; his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He also leaves behind his two beloved pups, Dancer and Mia, his steadfast companions who will miss him dearly.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to visit John during his two-month hospital stay, especially his airport family, his hunting family, and all the family members and friends who showed him love and support. He truly was loved by so many. Your kindness and presence meant more than words can express.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA in honour of John’s well known love for all pups, to the Royal University Hospital, or to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, both of whose staff provided such compassionate and exceptional care of John during the last couple months of his life.
We will love and miss you forever and always, John. You will never be forgotten.
John’s Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cherished Memories Funeral Home 591 Centennial Drive North in Martensville, Saskatchewan, with lunch to follow. The interment will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Steep Creek Cemetery in Steep Creek, Saskatchewan.
