John William Taylor
(July 22, 1948 – October 28, 2011)
It is in loving memory that we celebrate the life of John William Taylor. John lost his short but courageous battle with cancer at the Melfort Hospital on October 28, 2011 with his family by his side. John was the first of six children born to Jack and Pat Taylor on July 22, 1948 in Prince Albert, SK. The family moved to Melfort in 1959 where he resided until his passing.
John's memory will be forever cherished by his wife Denise, sons Chad (Melissa), John J. (Shannon) and Shawn (Jess), mother of the boys Anne, step-son Darren Sjolin, grandchildren Austin, Kenadie and Ryder. Also surviving him are his siblings Gary (Shirley), Judy (Frank) Tokarchik, Donald, Lianne (Perry) Pelletier, sister-in-law Joan McCartney as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. John was predeceased by his parents Jack and Pat, and his brother Bob.
John worked at Macleods for over 20 years before following his love of carpentry into the construction business. He worked for Mel Sask Construction up until his health failed him in August of 2011. John followed in his father's footsteps and fulfilled a life-long dream by joining the Melfort Fire Department in 1980. Sunday mornings you'd always find John at the Fire Hall enjoying a game of golf on the pool table. After 25 years of dedicated service, John retired in 2005 and looked forward to the Retired Firemen's barbecue every year.
John was a true “family man” who consistently put the needs and wants of his children and grandchildren first before his own, always the first person to offer a helping hand or a solution to a problem when needed. No one could make John's eyes light up like his grandchildren and he cherished every moment he spent with them. In the weeks leading up to his passing, there was nothing John looked forward to more than his daily visits with his brother Gary where they'd talk about everything under the sun for hours.
John was a very private man, never showing his true feelings or emotions and even after his diagnosis he never felt sorry for himself and didn't want others to feel sorry for him, telling us, “Everything will be fine”. John was a strong willed (some may say stubborn!) man who worked up until the day he entered the hospital and fought until the bitter end. His truthfulness, strong morals and extended knowledge will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, #1-345, 3rd Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1M6.
