John S. Mardell

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved JaJa on November 12, 2010 at the age of 85 years. John was born in Samburg, SK on November 25, 1924. John served in the army for 3 years when he was a young man of eighteen years old. On June 23, 1957 he married Emily and they started their life together. They moved to Waskesiu where they lived and worked for 10 years. They eventually moved back to the Kalyna District, purchased some land and started their farming life together. This was the place they raised their four children. In 1968 John started working at the PA Pulp Mill and continued to do so until he retired in November of 1989. During these years on the farm John enjoyed farming, raising cattle and being with his family. In June of 2000, John and Emily sold the farm and moved to Prince Albert where John resided until his passing. John was predeceased by his father and mother, Stanley and Sophie Mardell; his brothers Leo, Albert and Anthony Mardell and his sister Annie Kowtek (nee Mardell). John is leaving behind his wife Emily of 53 years; his children Harvey (Teresa), Henry, Lori (Roger Neefs) and Bev (Chris Wingerter); his eight grandchildren Dawn, Ashely, Larissa, Dallas, Taylor, Regan, Brianne and Amanda and his great grandchildren Jillian and Jackson. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Travis Myrheim officiating. Interment will be held at Claytonville Cemetery. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, PO Box 12013, Stn BRM B, Toronto, ON M7Y 2L3 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
