We are saddened to announce the passing of John Robert Ackland, late of Prince Albert, SK, on May 1, 2024, at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.
John was born on July 16, 1944, in Bideford, Devon, England, and came to Saskatchewan in the mid 1970’s. He was an educator and will be remembered fondly as a teacher who shared his love and passion for art in Prince Albert public schools. As one of his former students said of John, “You made learning fun and gave of yourself to students in a manner that many teachers do not.” In addition, John spent much of his recreational time at Cooke Golf Course, where he contributed countless hours of volunteer time. In recognition of this, John was made a lifetime member of the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre in 2013.
John is survived by his sister, Susan Ackland of Westward Ho!, England, and his son, Stephen of Calgary, AB. A Celebration of life to honor John’s memory will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Golf and Curling Club, 900 22nd St. East, Prince Albert, SK.
