John Podhorodecki
1934 – 2014

John Podhorodecki, age 79, entered into eternal peace on Friday, September 19, 2014. John was born on November 11, 1934 on the family farm at Claytonville. John was the second child of Felix and Annie Podhorodecki. The family moved to the Shipman area in 1947. John attended Celtic school. He farmed with his father and attended agricultural mechanical studies in Saskatoon. In 1957 John married Anna Boguski. They continued to farm in the Shipman area and had four children: Melvin (Gail) & their daughter Alyssa of Warman, SK; Debbie (Rick) Sholter of Blind Bay, BC; Russ (Sharon) & their children Ryan, Amy and Landon. Rachel of Saskatoon, SK; and Kathy Thomas (John) of Prince Albert/Fort Myers, Florida. John provided for his family through farming and operating a saw mill. The lumber John produced was used for many homes and farm buildings in the Shipman area. He also enjoyed carpentry and built the family homes on the farm and later in Nipawin. John was an avid hunter. He also contributed to the community by drilling wells and offering his assistance to neighbors and friends with livestock emergencies. He retired in 2000. John was a member of the Nipawin Historical Museum and for several years his restored Oliver 70 Standard tractor was on display. He leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years; his children; his grandchildren; his brother Edward and his sister Mary and their respective families; as well as numerous other relatives. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Serfas, Director Spiritual Care, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
