John “Johnny” Ivan Ironside
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Ivan Ironside on January 1, 2025, in Prince Albert, SK, with family by his side.
John was born on August 5 to George and Margaret Ironside (née Omani). He cherished his youth travelling with his grandparents, Joe and Campeska Omani. At the age of 14, he became a loved member of the Semkiw family.
Johnny had an avid interest in all aspects of farming and looked forward to spring seeding as well as calving season. He was an excellent operator of farm machinery and taught younger members of the family to drive with gentle direction and a large portion of humor. All aspects of farming brought him immense pleasure, as well as being out in nature. This included spending time in the forested areas and outshining everyone in berry picking.
John was often found socializing, as he was known in the community for his humor and cheerful disposition. John enjoyed country music and avidly watched comedies. He looked forward to visiting restaurants in Prince Albert and Saskatoon, SK as well as trips to the lake.
John was extremely thoughtful and kind. He took pride in his Dakota Sioux heritage. He was very spiritual, and his wisdom was appreciated.
John will always be lovingly remembered for his humor and joy. John leaves behind many memories treasured by family and friends.
Johnny is survived by Shirley, Violet and Ed Semkiw; sister-in-law, Melvina Eagle; younger brother, Leo J. Omani and family; nieces, Winnie Ironside and family, Leona Sutherland and family; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and members of the Bosdi/Morin; Fourstar; Goodvoice; Turner; Waditaka; and Yahyahkeekoot families.
