It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Roger Gondek on December 1, 2018 at the age of 71.
John lived a wonderful life full of many passions including farming and family. John took over the farm from his parents and farmed for 48 years with his wife Gloria. He took great pride in his land and the many improvements that he made to it. He was never afraid to try new equipment and ideas, and was always the first to experiment with new technology. He was the first in his community to have a round bailer with his neighbor John Folmer and an air seeder, and never showed fear in venturing into new ideas. This fearlessness that John contained provided him with the ability to not only obtain his pilot’s license, but to also own 5 airplanes throughout his life. He was well known for his trips to Sugi Lake, but his life as a pilot was most prominently remembered by his adrenaline rushing roller-coaster rides.
His greatest gifts were his sense of humor, his generosity, and his optimism. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Many officers could attest to his charismatic personality, which allowed him to talk himself out of any situation or predicament he found himself in. He always made time to socialize with friends and family and loved to sit down for a game of Kaiser or crib. No matter the situation, he always knew what to say to make you feel good. He was a very loving husband and father, although he truly lit up with joy at any opportunity to spend time with his grandkids, whom he loved even more.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria, and their three children, Taja and her family, Austin (Jessica) and their daughter Esbin, and John; Jamie (Keith) and their family, Amanda and Ethan; David (Trezley) and their daughter Gracie; his sister, Irene Gerner; and brothers Gordon, Eugene (Alice), Henry (Donna) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Nellie Gondek, mother-in-law Zena Stacey, son-in-law John Carroll, and brother-in-law Eric Gerner.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK.
