John Frank DIXON
April 1, 1934 – October 29, 2014
John passed away quietly on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Prince Albert on April 1, 1934. John spent his whole life in Prince Albert. He was the elder son of Frank and Elizabeth Dixon. John went to elementary school at Queen Elizabeth Elementary and high school at PACI. He attended teachers college and upon graduating accepted a teaching position at Wheatley School near Spruce Home, a one room country school grades 1-8. While teaching there he roomed and boarded with Larry and Mable Boettcher at their farm. John later accepted a teaching position in Prince Albert and remained in the PA schools till his retirement as Vice Principal at Queen Mary School in 1977.
John was an avid sportsman. He loved hunting, fishing and target shooting. He won the Saskatchewan Pistol Championship several times and represented Saskatchewan at the National Matches in Ontario. Some of John’s hunting friends happened to be from the Jacobsen family and through his friendship met Doris Jacobsen.
After a period of time Doris and John decided it would be a good thing to get married and so they did. They purchased a ¼ section of land south of P.A., put a house on it and have lived there ever since. John and Doris both loved canoeing, boating, fishing and hunting. They loved to skidoo on their property as well as cross country ski, snowshoeing, and during the summer hiked around their farm. They loved to sit in the trees around the house, BBQ and just enjoy one another in the lifestyle they both liked. John is survived by his loving wife Doris of Prince Albert; brother Thomas (Barbara) of Chilliwack, BC; aunt Peg and 2 cousins and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Van der Merwe and staff of level five at the Victoria Hospital for the wonderful help, compassion and understanding given during this trying time. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Ted Hicks officiating. Private Family Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
