John Edward Potter
(1926—2012)
John Edward Potter of Hoey Sk, ( 1926—2012) son of John and Violet Potter passed away February 24, 2012 at the age of 85. John passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He leaves to mourn Rita (nee Pocha) his wife of 54 years; his four children, Elaine Roy ( Marc Chicoine) of rural Prince Albert , Warren and Lucille Potter of Hoey, Connie and Jeff Henderson of Lloydminster, Neil and Paulette Potter of Hoey and Roland Roy (Wanda Cook) of Prince Albert. John had 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. John was raised on the family farm near Hoey, established in 1918 after the 1st World War where he lived till his passing. John had many passions in life and held a very high regard for his family and his faith, which he held onto until the end. His second passion would be his love of cattle, this love started at the age of 15 when he traded a new bike to a neighbor for his first calf. This started a lifelong career that spanned 64 years. His herd grew to more than 3000 head. Dad had a gift to see the value in cattle and with his ability to care for them, one had to wonder if he didn’t somehow connect with them on a different level. Another passion of John's was his love of Auction Sales. John lived to attend sales, his keen eye to a deal was one of his attributes. While attending sales he would see friends he met over the course of his life. What began as a passion for auctions evolved into a meeting of old friends. Between the thrill of a good deal and the chance to spend time with friends was priceless to dad. Although his health in later years didn’t allow dad to operate farm equipment this didn’t keep him from the field, he would spent countless hours during spring and fall watching the seed go in the ground or the harvest progress. His last harvest was special for John and he never missed a single meal with the men out in the field. This gave him a deeper sense of involvement with the ongoing harvest and allowed him to give those words of advice often heard from fathers. Dad said many times over the past three weeks how impressed he was with the care he received while in the hospital and his family would like to thank the Doctors and caregivers of the Victoria Hospital for their professional care for dad and our family at this difficult time. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at St. Alban's Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK with Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation 1200- 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4 or the Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan 1308 – 5th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 2H7.
