John Barlow
With sadness, the family of John Barlow announce his passing due to cardiac complications on July 28, 2023, at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.
John was born August 16, 1954, and grew up on the family farm at Tweedsmuir, SK. After his father passed away, he and his mother moved to Christopher Lake, SK, and resided there until the Fall of 2021. Growing up on the farm John had a happy life. He helped his father with the farm chores and learned how to drive the tractor.
After moving to Christopher Lake, SK, he was employed by Carruthers Trucking for several years, working on the garbage truck. Following this, he was employed by the Kinsmen Community Workshop up to his retirement. During retirement, he could usually be found on coffee row in Christopher Lake, SK, or at Northside. John always had a passion for tractors and drove his in the annual Christopher Lake Western Days Parade.
When in failing health he became a patient of the Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, SK, for several months. After his health improved, he became a resident of the Serenity Group Home, Prince Albert, SK.
He is survived by his half-brother, David (Wanda) Witcombe; sister, Hilda (Mike) Kobylak; nephew, Scott Kobylak; nieces, Sharon Macleod and Lori Allcock; and numerous cousins.
John was predeceased by his father, Walter (1970); mother, Audrey (2010); and numerous extended family members.
There will be a Come and Go Celebration of Life at the Tweedsmuir Hall, Tweedsmuir, SK, on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Coffee and refreshments will be served.
John’s cremains will be interred with his mother at the St. Christopher Anglican Church Cemetery, Christopher Lake, SK.
The family thanks the 6th floor staff at the Victoria Hospital and Dr. Gordon Surkan for the excellent care John received. Also, a big thank you to the staff of Serenity Care Home for their kindness to John. He enjoyed his stay there and made many friends who nicknamed him “Grandpa”!
