Johannes Nicolaas Kriel
October 2, 1935 – August 28, 2025

With heartfelt sadness the family of Johannes Nicolaas Kriel announces his passing on Aug 28, 2025 at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 89 years.
With his family by his side he went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Nico leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 64 years Marina, daughter Amanda (Eugene) Buchner, and their children Amedee (Natasha) and Nico.
Son Nicolas (Shirley) Kriel, and their children Thomas, Ashlie, Nicole (Forrest), Kristopher (Kaelyn).
He will be missed by his sister in law Saar (Jan) Roeloffs, brother in law Hoppies (Elna) Hopkins and many nieces and nephews.

Nico was born Oct 2, 1935 in Winburg, South Africa to Jock and Lien Kriel.
His studied at Pretoria University and graduated from Medicine in 1961 as a general practitioner. He practiced for 12 years as a GP then returned to University to obtain a specialty in pediatrics. He practiced in Pretoria for the rest of his career, where he was dedicated to providing care to newborn’s, but his real passion was looking after premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit. Nico practiced as a pediatrician for 24 years and his dedication to his patients was evident in the long hours spent at the hospital and in his office.

Nico was hard working, a good provider to his family, and very generous and kind.  He was loved by all, was patient and kind and a man of integrity and wisdom. He was a wonderful loving husband to his wife Marina, and a good father to his children, providing them with many great opportunities. His love of travelling took the family on many trips across the globe, and vacations at the White Sands with extended family created many wonderful memories over the years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren, family and friends, and will be forever in our hearts.

A Memorial Service for Nico will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Funeral Home, 311 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK
