HANNA – Joel Fraser
(August 7, 1962 – June 19, 2011)
Joel Fraser Hanna passed away in his sleep at home after a 3 and half year battle with Congestive Heart failure.
Joel was born in Swift Current and graduated from Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1980. He attended the University of Regina receiving his Bachelor’s of Journalism in 1990, and worked as a Journalist in North Battleford, Yorkton and Weyburn. He went on to pursue careers in technology sales and photography until his illness in 2008.
Joel was predeceased by his daughter Jamie Lee in 1994, his father Stan in 2004 and his sister Melanie in 2006. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Cassidy (Lori); mother Jean; brother Kevin (Jessie); their children Meghan, Shaun and Brittany: Melanie’s children Jeremy (Kyra) and Becka Perdue; Grand nephews and nieces (Jeremy) Dallas, Liam, Carys, James Perdue, (Becka) Mickey Liddy, (Meghan) Kaelen, Kyran, Hunter and Hudson Flaterud.
Joel could sneak up on you with his dry sense of humour, quote sports statistics, and enjoyed intelligent conversation. He loved to read and write and find the next great bargain. He valued all the friends he had made along the way, and the family would like to thank all those who supported him in his life. He saved his greatest passion for parenting his daughter Cassidy. She was everything to him and he treasured their times together. He was very proud of her. He often quipped that she learned to read early because he couldn’t read Harry Potter fast enough.
Funeral services were held at Parkside Funeral Home Saturday June 25th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bonita Chad officiating. The interment took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Curent, SK.
In lieu of flowers the family would request that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Foundation.
