MR. JOE BARTON 1927 – 2011. Lawrence S. (Joe) Barton passed away in Prince Albert on January 10, 2011. Dad was born to Myrtle (Walsh) and Henry S. Barton July 25, 1927 in Admiral, SK. He was the oldest of eight children. Joe's family moved to Lindsey in 1933 then to MacDowall in 1939 where he grew up and went to school. In 1945 Joe married Edna (Madden). Joe is survived by his children Linda (Ron Sterling) of Prince Albert, Bill (Sonia) of Cloverdale, BC, Jim (Debbie) of White Star, Brenda Best (Mike Palawaga) of Prince Albert; 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; his brothers Tiny (Sheila) of Lumby, BC and Lyle (Maureen) of Langley, BC; his sisters Rita of Fort St. John, BC and Janelle of Cloverdale, BC; his brother-in-law Ken Madden (Gertie) of Blaine Lake, SK; his sisters-in-law Doreen (Jack) Madden The Pas, MB and Iolene Halcro Prince Albert as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Edna; his parents Myrtle and Henry Barton; his brothers Orville and Elroy; his sister Alma; his three brothers-in-law Jack, Ora and George; his sister-in-law Hilda Madden. In his early years Dad worked building planes in Ontario, but he was called to come home to help on the family farm. Dad began his career with the Department of Natural Resources as the towerman at North Cabin and later became the Radio Operator in Prince Albert, and spent 38 years working for the Saskatchewan Government until his retirement in 1984. Dad dedicated many hours to the Red Wing Community Club, where he served as president for a number of years, building a new hall, catering and bartending for numerous banquets. Dad was also the local fix it guy and spent a great deal of time fixing neighbors and friends televisions and radios. Dad also enjoyed playing the guitar. Dad spent many years league bowling, and spent many hours playing horseshoes and card games with many family and friends. In Dad's later years he was solely dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad will be sadly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. At Dad's request there will be no funeral service, a family graveside service will be held at a later date. It is the family's request, that those preferring to place memorials in lieu of other tributes may do so to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert, Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty – Funeral Director.
