Joanne Halyk (nee Subchyshyn)
It is with deep sadness, the family of Joanne Halyk announce her passing on January 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Rose Garden Hospice, in Prince Albert, SK.
Joanne was born to parents Al and Rhona Subchyshyn on January 13, 1962, in Macklin, SK and after the age of 4 the family moved to Prince Albert. Joanne had many special memories of time spent with family at her grandparent’s cabin, the family farm and on camping trips travelling in Canada and the United States. She went to school in Prince Albert and went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan, earning a Bachelor of Education Degree and later taught in the Prince Albert Rural and Saskatchewan Rivers School Divisions.
Joanne said she fell in love with her husband Tom the day she met him. After an extended courtship, and engagement they got married in 2003 in the home they built together on their acreage south of the city where they spent so many happy years together. Upon retirement, Joanne and Tom travelled extensively through Europe and North America. They also enjoyed spending part of the winter each year in Victoria, BC.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband Tom; her stepdaughter Dionne Halyk; her stepson Thomas (Ceci Wong) Halyk; her mother Rhona Subchyshyn; her brother Mitchell Subchyshyn and wife Leigh-Anne; sister Rachel Subchyshyn and husband Scott Norbury; her nieces Caitlyn (Kyle) Georget, Jamie Subchyshyn (Nick Glister), Max Glister; her great-niece Ella Georget; her uncle and aunt, Barry and Isla Wilcox and cousins Taylor (Kristie), Lennon, Ysanne (Raef), Emmett and Alexis (Justin); her mother-in-law Mary Halyk; brother and sister-in-law Don and Edith Halyk; her niece Gillian and nephew Matthew; brother and sister-in-law Mark and Bev Halyk, nephew Adam (Alison), Heidi Joanne, Holly, niece Laura (Brett), nephew Evan (Megan), and nephew Aaron (Lisa).
She is predeceased by her grandparents Peter and Stephanie Subchyshyn; grandparents Ted and Connie Wilcox; and her father, Al Subchyshyn.
The family wishes to thank Dr. LeRoux, and the medical team at the Cancer Clinic in Saskatoon for their care and support of Joanne throughout her illness, as well as, the various home care nurses who made it possible for Joanne to remain at home until her short stay at the Rose Garden Hospice where she received exceptional care.
There will be an informal memorial service announced in the spring of 2025.
