Joan Ward

Joan D. Ward passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
She was predeceased by her husband Bert; her father and mother Richard and Delores Stooke; her brother William and her sister Margaret. Joan is survived by her sons Mike (Renée); Ed (Shari) and children Taryn (Steve), Kelsi and Stacy (Basil); Jim (Joyce) and children A.J. Scott, Matthew and Courtney; her daughter Irene (Greg) Brotzel and children Samantha and Amanda; her brother Robert (Betty) Stooke; her brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was born in St. Boniface, MB on September 2, 1925. She spent her early years in Meadow Lake. After high school, Joan moved to Vancouver to complete her nursing career in 1949. Her nursing career brought her to La Ronge in the early 1950’s where she met her husband, Bert.
Joan, Bert and their four children moved to Prince Albert in 1970. After caring for her children, she returned to nursing. After she retired, she continued working as a noon hour school supervisor until she was 85. Joan enjoyed watching sports; she was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays and Carolina Hurricanes. She also enjoyed watching curling and all her grandchildren’s activities. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren. She loved singing with Bert and was a member of her church choir and Sweet Adelines. Joan will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK with the celebrant Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
