Joan Phyllis Carriere
1971 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Phyllis Carriere announces her passing on June 16, 2024.
Joan or “little Joanie Nolan” was born on Valentine’s day 1971 to Gene “Buck” and Violet Nolan.
She grew up on her family’s mixed farm north of Paddockwood in the Forest Gate area. As a child, Joan attended Paddockwood School, participated in 4-H and was involved in many community activities. Later in her teens, she attended Carlton Comprehensive High School and later took cosmetology at SIAST. She never moved far from home. Her children Cole, Taylor, and Reece were raised in Paddockwood and later on the family homestead. Joan loved the outdoors. Some of her most recent passions were nature photography and spending time on or in the water kayaking and snorkeling with her best friend and loving partner Dave. Joan drove school bus for more than 20 years. During this time, she made special relationships with many of the young people that were a part of her daily life.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Buck and Violet Nolan; her brother, Rick Nolan; and her nephew, Curtis Hoover.
Left behind to mourn her loss is a large group of childhood friends, her siblings, her children, and a rather unconventional family full of cherished people who surrounded themselves in her love and devotion. As well as the title of “bonus Mom” and “Nana” from Dave’s daughters, Skyler and Cassandra, and their families.
