Jermiah “Jerry” McLeod was born on June 29, 1945 on Atahkakoop First Nation, Saskatchewan (Sandy Lake). He passed away on June 2, 2011 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his sons, sisters, and grandsons as well as many relatives and friends.
His life passion was Indian education; his goal was to help provide a place for Indian people to find dignity in the education system. He was greatly influenced by the work of his parents Ida and John McLeod. This journey on this path took him down many roads of employment including: being the principal of the Bernard Constant community school, professor at the University of Saskatchewan, Director of Education for the Prince Albert Tribal Council, Fort-a-la-Corne Employment Development Corporation, and Director of the Prince Albert Student Residence. He was our rock, our stone from which we could draw upon for strength. It was an honour to walk on this earth with you.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents John and Ida McLeod, his grandparents Peter and Mary Vandal, and Abel and Maggie McLeod.
He is survived by his sons Noel McLeod, and Neal (Tasha Beeds), his grandsons Justin, Glen, Dakota, and Cody, his two sisters Joanne and Barbara and his brother Morris, his nieces and nephews John R., Jaye, Robin, Joelle, Bob, Nathan and his great-niece Fatima. His uncles and aunties Burton Vandal, Gertie Vandal, Nora and John Sanderson, Louisa Moostoos, Grace Vandal, Lloyd and Caroline McLeod and his numerous cousins.
