Jeffrey James LaBrash
November 18, 1984 – July 14, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Jeffrey James LaBrash announce his sudden passing on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
Jeff was born in Kelowna, BC in 1984. He was the fourth and final child of Chuck and Bernice. He liked to claim that they had now reached perfection when he was born and decided they could now stop having kids.
When the family moved back to Saskatchewan in 1995, Jeff finalized his schooling in Shellbrook. Jeff took part in baseball and hockey, enjoyed being with his friends and taking part in family functions. Family was very important to Jeff, although he didn’t always pay attention to activities or where his family members were at times. Once when discussing where his oldest sister Marni was, and what she was doing, being quick witted as he often was, he replied “Right where she’s supposed to be.”
Jeff explored many different careers over his life. He started out working for Shellview Sod Farms, then trained as a heavy-duty equipment operator, he worked in Fort McMurray scaffolding, and he tried out being a lineman for SaskPower. Jeff then changed gears and began taking training to become a pilot. While doing this he worked at the Saskatoon Airport. This experience then lead to a job with Envirotech. At this point in Jeff’s life he met Meeyoung and they were married in 2013. Jeff’s humor sometimes left people wondering but Meeyoung would say “Unfortunately I still love him”. Jeff realized that he wanted to build a secure and solid future for his family. In 2015 Jeff began his plumber apprenticeship and knew he had found his calling.
In September 2015, Jeff’s son Marcus was born. This was life changing for Jeff and we all witnessed a side of Jeff we had never seen. He was a completely devoted dad that gave all that he had for his son. Though Jeff sometimes had troubles figuring out what he wanted in life, there was no doubt of his love, attention, thoughtfulness and care he gave to Marcus. Jeff naturally stepped into fatherhood, like he was meant to be.
Recently life took a turn in an opposite direction for Jeff, and he faced many different types of challenges. His greatest challenge though, was one none of us could see until it was too late. This was depression at its darkest moment, and emphasizes the need to reach out to each other. Mental health is as critical as physiological health. Talk about mental health with your loved ones. It is not shameful or a sign of weakness. Help each other. There are no words, no amount of tears, no amount of anguish that conveys the sudden loss of such an amazing, colorful, humorous and loving man. Jeff was a son, a brother, a husband, a daddy, and an uncle. He touched so many lives in ways he never understood. Jeff has left an emptiness that can never be filled.
We love you Jeff, and will miss you on this side of life. In love, we will see you on the other side.
