Jean Yont
YONT – Jean, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2012. My mother, Fredrica “Jean” Splan was born on February 9, 1918 in Kamsack, SK., the only child of Fredrick Lyon Splan and Carolina Devina Shaver. She moved to Prince Albert (PA), SK. at age 1, spending her entire school years here in PA attending Central School, King George, Empress School, Buckland High School, completing grade 12 and later attended college for a year. Continuing her education, she took a 3 month comptroller (accounting) course in Toronto staying with relatives. Mom then returned to PA and was employed with Burns Foods for five years in which time she met Earl Yont. Earl and Jean spent 3 years together and were later married in 1942. They farmsteaded south of PA, near the Fenton Ferry, where she spent the rest of her 94 years. Two children were born, Tim in 1949, and Penny in 1951. My mother enjoyed a lifetime of outdoor work, gardening, involved in 4-H, socializing with the neighbors and especially curling in the winter months. She had a deep feeling for animals, especially her dogs. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Earl; her daughter Penny at age 16; and her mother and father. She is survived by her son Tim, daughter-in-law Gloria and three grandchildren, Karrie, Kristin and Daxton, one great granddaughter, Delaney Georgia and a sister-in-law, Eva McKeen. A Celebration of Life will be held at the PA Golf and Curling Club, Saturday, March 24th, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Hawryluk Funeral Home. 922.6611.
