Jean Leschyshyn, (nee Rogowski), Mom was born on June 27, 1932 in Blaine Lake, SK to Nicholas and Mary Rogowski. In 1938 she moved with her family to Bodmin, SK where she attended Ladder Vallee and Green Mantle Schools until the eighth grade. Over the years she would tell us stories of walking miles or riding horse back to go places. Mom always had many friends, and they would gather together at dances and socials. She had a love for music, loved to sing, dance and play guitar.
When she was a teenager, her family moved back to Blaine Lake, and at a dance is where she met dad. On October 13, 1956, Mom and Dad were married, bought a farm in the Krydor District, and started their family. They crop farmed along with raising cattle, chickens, and pigs. She grew a large garden and juggled all this while raising her three children. Life was not easy on the farm, and Dad got a job at the Pulp Mill in Prince Albert where he eventually moved the family in 1972. Mom stayed home raising us kids. She loved to cook and bake. She did housekeeping for a few families in the area, but gave it up to look after us, as we became involved in different activities. She was always our greatest fan, and you could always hear her yelling encouragement from the stands.
Mom and Dad loved to travel. They took trips with family and friends. Their adventures took them to places like Hawaii, driving through the United States to Mexico, flying to Las Vegas, and driving to Alaska. She still loved to garden in her later years. Mom was great at cross stitch, and even tried her hand at ceramics. Mom loved to go berry picking, camping, and fishing. A good card game with friends was always a welcome. In Mom’s later years she had a passion for reading. You could always find her with a book. Family and friends were always her love, and were always welcome.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Rogowski. Her husband William “Bill” Leschyshyn; her brothers, Joseph Rogowski and Harry Rogowski; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rogowski and Devonna Leschyshyn and her brother-in-law, Jim Hunchak. She is survived by her two sons, Wayne (Lisa) and their son, Landon, Dale (Cynthia) and their daughters, Courtney and Brooklyn; her daughter, Darlene (Joe) Yungwirth and their sons, Justin and Nicholas; her brother, Dan Rogowski; her sister, Helen Hunchak; her brother-in-law, Morris Leschyshyn; her sister-in-law, Opal Rogowski, and numerous nieces and nephews.
