Jean Margaret Leonard
(April 4, 1932 ~ November 5, 2011)
Jean Leonard, nee Dodds, passed away November 5, 2011 at Melfort Hospital at the age of 79. Jean had been plagued by pain and discomfort for many years, but always continued to fight on with “her good Norwegian heart.”
Jean was born to Harold & Judith (Kross) Dodds on April 4, 1932 during a bad snowstorm. The doctor never made it. The family moved to Kinistino in 1937 to open Dodds Meats and there her brother Gordon was born. The first baby to be delivered by Dr. Fahlman.
Jean attended school in Kinistino where she excelled in scholastics and school sports. Her bright mind and out going personality earned her many life long friends. After high school, she attended normal school in Saskatoon in 1950, receiving her teachers certificate. Her first job was a one room school house in the Haggstrom School District. She also taught school in Kinistino.
On April 12, 1952, she married the love of her life Pat Leonard. Together they lived in Kinistino for many years, farming and raising their family of four. Jean enjoyed reading, attending sporting events that her children were involved in and family life in general.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Harold & Judith Dodds; her brother Gordon Dodds; in-laws George & Duncie Leonard; her husband Patrick Leonard; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Dan (Vivian) Leonard, Tootsie (Orolin) Hunt, Sadie (Clarence) Spencer, Maymie (Stuart) Fleming, Archie (Marg) Leonard, George (Adele) Leonard, Irene Byers & Helen Cumisky. She leaves to mourn her children Judy (Larry) Beaulieu, Terry (Sherril) Leonard, Shari Keith & Tim (Tammie) Leonard. Her grandchildren Michael (Lee Anne) Skene, Sean (Diane) Beaulieu, Theran (Heidi) Beaulieu, Caitlin (Don) Beaulieu, Chad Leonard, Brennan Leonard, Tasha Keith, MacKenzie Keith, Landon Leonard, & Lexi Leonard. Her great-grandchildren Ty, Tanner, Kolby, & Chase Skene; Brexton, Dawsyn Elias & Karter Rose Leonard & Parker Beaulieu. Jean is also survived by sisters-in-law Patti Dodds, Alice Matthews and brother-in-law Glen Byers as well as many, many nieces & nephews.
Jean was a kind, gentle, caring person whose inner strength was an example to us all. We will miss you mom.
At Jean's request there will be no service. A private family interment and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
