Jean Kiryk Obituary
Jean Kiryk, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on the morning of March 28th, 2026, at Rose Garden Hospice.
Jean lived an incredibly full and rich life. She lived her life with complete trust in a loving God and shared God’s love with everyone. Jean loved to care for others and her impact reached far and wide to many people. In her last year she had many ups and downs in her health, but in true Jean nature didn’t let her challenges keep her down and continued to come back stronger than ever. She was very good at keeping us on our toes! We are incredibly grateful to the staff at Rose Garden Hospice for the quality of care and friendship that they provided for Grandma in her final months.
Jean was born on April 26th, 1931, in Alticane, Saskatchewan. Her love of children began when she was a young girl as she cared for her siblings.
She married Mike Kiryk on October 23rd, 1949, and they had 5 beautiful, healthy children together. She spent years working at the Danish Bakery, refining her baking skills to create gorgeous wedding cakes for countless celebrations, eventually leaving to take a housekeeping job at the Victoria Hospital where she met her very best friend, Elaine Matheis. She loved her time there and the people she shared that time with and happily retired at age 65.
She spent many hours of her life enjoying time in the kitchen. Rolling cabbage rolls, pinching perogies, canning and pickling garden goodies, baking holiday treats an birthday cakes every year, or making meals to share with her family and friends.
Jean was truly a caretaker. Whether it be mowing the lawn, tending to her garden or flowers, or supporting those she loved in countless ways. She had a way of making everything more beautiful, leaving people and places better than she found them.
Jean loved being a mother, a baker, a gardener, a housekeeper, a friend. But more than anything she loved being a grandmother. She was the type of Grandma who always offered a playful, loving, helpful presence to her 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The one who would get on the floor to play or be outside building snowmen all the way into her 90’s.
She carried a light with her that was felt by all. Grandma will be deeply missed by many. We will carry on her legacy by remaining anchored in faith and love in the way that she did in her 94 years of life.
