ERIKSON, Jean
1928 – 2013
Jean Kathaleen Erikson (nee Dalziel) passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2013 in her 85th year. Mom was born in 1928 in Rouleau, Saskatchewan to Tabetha and David Dalziel. She was the youngest of five children. When Mom was five, her family moved north to the Love district where they homesteaded and began a dairy farm. In 1942, after her older brothers joined the war effort, she helped her father deliver milk using a horse and buggy. Mom loved farm life, but after completing grade 10 and working for families in the area, she moved to Prince Albert and attended business college. In Prince Albert, she met her future husband, Allan Erikson. They lived in side-by-side rooming houses and got acquainted walking to business college together. In 1949, they married and a family began arriving a year later. Mom gave birth to five children, all during the 1950’s. She was a “stay-at-home mom” until the mid 60’s when she began a 25 year career managing the Arctic Savings and Credit Union in Prince Albert. She loved the challenges that position provided. She very enthusiastically recruited new members to help keep the little credit union operating, calling on the sales skills she developed years earlier selling milk door-to -door in Love. In addition to her career in finance, Mom was an excellent baker, seamstress and knitter. She took loving care of her family and friends. After retiring, Mom and Dad travelled throughout Canada, Great Britain and Sweden, and volunteered extensively. Mom was honoured in 2001 when Dad and she were named Mr. and Mrs. Prince Albert Winter Festival recognizing their many years of community volunteer work. Mom also loved spending time at the cabin at Candle Lake. Mom is survived by her husband Allan, and children Les (Jo-Anne) of Prince Albert, Dave (Susan) of Vancouver, Randy (Irene) of Air Ronge, Linnea of Saskatoon and Wanda (Dave) of Nanaimo; her nine grandchildren: Joshua, Christina, Dylan, Kyle, Simon, Donald, Kailey, Jonathon and Sarah; her sister, Annabelle Pack, and one brother, Samuel “Duke” (Nora) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, David (Betty), and Ken (Johanna). We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care team at Home Care; and to Dr. Unsworth and the Medical/Palliative team on Level 5, Victoria Hospital for their invaluable assistance in making the past year so comfortable for Mom. Thanks also to the many people who contributed to Mom being able to live in her own home for so long before being hospitalized. We are so grateful. Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
