She moved with her family to the Choiceland area at an early age and was raised on the family farm. After finishing her schooling she moved to Prince Albert to work as a caregiver for the children of the Moffat Family in the Keyhole Castle. Eventually she took a change of employment to work as a sales clerk for the Metropolitan store, located on Central Avenue in Prince Albert. Shortly thereafter she met her future husband, Fred Willis. After dating for several months, they were wed on February 7, 1950. Jean and Fred enjoyed the outdoors, often camping and travelling throughout Northern Saskatchewan and in 1958 they built a rustic cabin on the lakeshore of Emma Lake. The family moved to the cabin from June to August each year and enjoyed many fun summer days there. Jean was a devoted mother to her two sons and chose to be a home mom and daycare provider for several other children for many years. In 1976, she began working as a floral designer and sales clerk for Elizabeth’s Floral Boutique in Prince Albert. Eventually Jean moved on to open her own flower shop in Choiceland until her retirement. Jean loved to visit with her family and friends and could often be found spending time in her garden.
