It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Jane Krafchuk (nee Gregory) was predeceased by her husband, George Krafchuk; mother and father, Elenore & Gerald Gregory; and her biological parents, Robert Fulthorpe and Barbara Anderson. She is survived by her 3 children, Robyn Zuccaro (Tony), Greg Krafchuk (Stephanie), Susan Krafchuk; and her grandchildren, Sarah & Rachel Zuccaro, Julian Krafchuk, Shamus and Kaitlyn Halbach. Jane is also survived by her sister, Susan Gregory (Clarence); and her sister-in-law, Jean Reese. She was fortunate to connect with her biological siblings and is survived by Roberta Fulthorpe, Robert Horner, Barbara Hammond, and Lorena Anderson. Jane leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly.
Jane was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and adopted by Eleanor and Gerald Gregory. She grew up in the northern community of Geralton, Ontario, where she spent her days exploring the surrounding lakes and forests. Jane was a dreamer and said there was no better place on earth to be a child. She often reminisced of time spent making forts in the bush and hanging with friends at the Silver Grill. It was there she met her husband George. They married in Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 1967, and started their life together in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. This is where they remained and raised their family.
Jane was referred to as “The Flame”…. and for good reason. Jane had a smile, a presence and a charisma that you couldn’t help but gravitate to. Jane lived large in every way. Her laugh was infectious, and her heart was generous. She had the ability to see the good in all and made everyone she met feel valued. She had the gift of connection – even to those who felt misunderstood. Recognizing her skills, she returned to school and obtained her certificate in Social work in 1982. Jane had a dynamic career and was a pioneer in her field. She was fiercely committed to advocating for children and families. Jane was a contributing author to the Saskatchewan Child and Family Services Act. She served on countless community boards and organizations. She was instrumental in the development of community programs aiding those in need. She played an integral role in identifying and developing the need for school social workers within the education system. Jane spent the majority of her career working in schools, mentoring colleagues, and supporting students and families. Jane was respected for the work she did and her invaluable contribution to the field of social work.
Jane adored her family. She proudly boasted of each accomplishment, success and achievement…child, grandchild and dogs alike. She also loved her phone. Maybe more than us. But only to connect with the dear friends she loved so much. Jane spent many fun filled summers at Mariner’s Cove, Candle Lake. It was there she floated like royalty upon her dingy; holding court; summoning her subjects to deliver food and beverage to her liking. Those were some of her very best days on earth.
Jane’s Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., August 11, 2021, at the Nordale Hall, with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating, Prince Albert, SK. Mom will be laid to rest with her immediate family in Balcarres by her side. All those who loved Jane are invited to attend.
We would like to thank everyone who loved and were a part of our mom’s life. She will be missed but never forgotten.
