JAMES HENRY McKAY
James Henry McKay Beloved Patriarch passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in his home in Briarlea. Jim McKay was born July 14 1921 in the Davis District SK. He moved with his family to Briarlea district and grew up there and attended school at the Briarlea School. He joined the Army during the WWII but was honorably discharged in 1944 because of the sudden death of his father. On August 2, 1954 he married the love of his life Viola Harris. In 1957 he joined the Church of Latter Day Saints and in 1959 they were sealed in the LDS Cardston Alberta Temple for Time and all Eternity. They loved their family and wanted to be a family forever. They lived in Prince Albert SK until 1974. While living in Prince Albert Jim worked for the Department of Natural Resources building radio systems across Northern Saskatchewan (XLB50). While he worked for the DNR he also ran a successful TV and Radio repair business and farmed with his uncle-in-law Bert Johnstone during the summers. Dad had a tremendous work ethic which he passed on to his Family. In 1974 he retired from his job with the DNR and moved back to Briarlea district to farm full time. He remained farming until 1994 when Viola got sick and passed away. Dad was a dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and a great friend and neighbor to all he knew. Left to celebrate his life are his children, Diana McKay of Medicine Hat and family, Brenda McKay of Saskatoon and family, Janice McKay of Medicine Hat and family, Duane and Donna of Briarlea district and family, Karen and Terry Halcro of Briarlea and family, the Children of Maxine and Lindsay Williams, Bobbie, Becki, Linwood and Parker, David and Susan McKay of Prince Albert and family, Gayle Hansen of Blackfoot Idaho and family and Colleen and Adam Ftitzer of GatesvilleTexas and family. Dad’s posterity total nine children, 44 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. James Henry McKay was predeceased by his wife and Eternal Companion Viola Helen Emma Harris (January 4, 1995); his parents Calvin S. McKay and Dora Stevens McKay; his daughter and son-in-law Maxine and Lindsay Williams; his sister Kathleen Lezu; his mother-in-law Agnes(Nessie) Harris; his father-in-law Richard Henry Harris; his uncle-in-law Robert (Bert) Johnstone; and brother-in-law Tom Zwack; his half-brothers and half-sisters Emily Schneider, Bill Brice, Dorothy Brice, Stanley Brice, Stuart Brice and Edith Brice. The funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012. Interment will take place at the St. Martin’s Briarlea Cemetery. It is the family’s request that donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of Jim. The reception and lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. at Carlton Park Community Hall, 3100 Dunn Drive.
