WILSON, JAMES (HARRY) – APR. 27, 1922 – MAR. 22, 2013
James Harry Wilson passed away peacefully at his residence in Melfort on Mar. 22, 2013 at the grand age of 90 years. Harry was born and raised on the family farm in the Fisher District, North of Birch Hills. He took his schooling in a one room school house, Fisher School #3933, also located on the family farm. He served in the Canadian Army, Calgary Regiment 1st Canadian Armoured Corps from Dec. 1942 until July 1945. While on leave in Toronto he met his future wife, Rowna Urry and shortly after returning from overseas in 1945 they were married in Toronto. They moved back to the family farm at Birch Hills in 1946. Harry operated the family farm for fifteen years as well as being the caretaker of Fisher School. He then worked as a janitor for several years at Birch Hills High School. In November, 1973 they moved to Melfort where he was the janitor for the Broadway School until retirement in 1987. After his retirement, he spent many days at the farm mowing grass, gardening and maintaining the house, it was their resort getaway. His family have many fond memories of this time. He was predeceased by his wife: Rowna; his parents: Sherwood & Maude Wilson; his brother: Frank; his sisters: Arlene Olson and Nina Broadfoot; his brothers-in-law: Ray Swaby, Nels Olson, Gordon Broadfoot, Russ Urry, Louis Urry, Jerry Urry and Oz Dutrizac; and his sisters-in-law: Hazel Wilson, Bev Urry, Lorraine Urry and Lois Dutrizac. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children: Ronald (Leslie) Wilson, Judith (Borden) Hicks, Kerry Wilson and Lois (Dennis) Hill; his grandchildren: Tracey (Kenton) Le Comte, Kevin (Heather) Halcro, Todd (Dawn) Wilson, Tanya Peters (Chad Graves), Kevin Wilson (Chelsey Hickman), David Wilson, Stephen Hill and Melanie Hill; and his great-grandchilden: Kyle (Jasmin) Folmer, Kailee LeComte, Dallas Danczak, Dakz Wilson, Sophie Peters and Colbie Graves. Harry also leaves a very special 101 year old sister: Viola Swaby; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Box 340, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0, Birch Hills Cemetery, Box 206, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0, or the Melfort Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 510 Broadway Ave N, Melfort, SK S0E 1A0.
