James Lester Ellis passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert after a two year battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Prince Albert on December 28, 1944. He attended school at Nesbitt, Rayside, Shellbrook, Canwood, White Fox and Wild Rose. After graduating from Wild Rose Central School, he worked for C.C.I.L in Prince Albert and Spiritwood and then he completed 28 years, on the guard staff, at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, retiring in 1995.
As a young man, Jim was quite athletic and he loved to dance. Being raised on a farm, there was always a country dance somewhere, every weekend. He and Yvonne also spent many hours snowmobiling with his Mom and Dad. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he was happiest when he was at the cabin, sitting around the fire, having a drink with friends, playing cards or touring the sub-division on his golf cart.
Jim and Yvonne lived on an acreage in Shell River Heights and have 22 years of wonderful memories. Jim was a gardener and he was very proud of the tremendous crops of tomatoes he always grew and generously shared.
They moved to Prince Albert four years ago but have spent most of their time at the lake.
Jim was a great friend, neighbor, uncle, son, and husband and will be greatly missed, especially by “The Mrs.”
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne; his mother: Rebecca, of Prince Albert; his brother-in-law: Dwayne and Cheryl Smith of Loon Lake; his brother-in-law: Allan Struthers of rural Prince Albert; his nephews: Doug and Megan (Tristan, Rylan and Katie) Smith of Melfort and Shawn and Michelle (Kaelyn, Joshua and Micah) Smith of Sherwood Park, AB; his special god-daughter: Kimberly and John (Liam) Bennett of Prince George, BC; his cousin: Gordon and Josie Ellis of Cranbrook, BC; along with special family friends – The Briggs’ from Mackenzie, BC, and The Sands’ family from Shell River Heights.
He was predeceased by his father: Lester; his sister: Betty Struthers; his brother: Donald; and his father and mother-in-law: Sid and Millie Smith of Sturgeon Valley.
