Jack (John) de Vlaming
July 30th, 1935 – February 5th, 2016
We sadly announce the passing of a wonderful husband and father. Jack loved people and he enjoyed life to the fullest. His was definitely a life well lived! From a very young age he was determined to improve his life and the lives of others. He proudly served in the RCMP for 25 years and after his retirement from the force remained active in the retired police association and the International police association. He returned to school, got his degree from the University of Saskatchewan and became hospital director in Big River. He was very active in the Board of Trade and the Legion. He was always looking for ways to improve Healthcare, tourism, and life overall in his Community. He loved to travel and when he finally retired from the hospital he and Arlene set off on an adventure down under which would change their lives for the next 20 years. They met an amazing group of people in Maroochydore, Australia and it became their 2nd home. Dad took on a self-appointed role as entertainment director. . He loved to plan group excursions for all his new friends, to the theatre, dinner parties, daytrips etc. He took very serious the job of making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. When back in Canada for the summer he would happily promote trips to Australia.
His last couple of years were spent closer to home but he kept in touch with all his friends old and new. He never lost interest in the community and world “happenings”. His kept his good humor and love of singing til the end. His last wish was fulfilled as he passed away at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene from Big River, SK His daughter Deb (Roy) from Edmonton, AB His daughter Sharon (Steve) from Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his grand-daughter Taylor Lynn (1995). A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, February 14th, 2016 at the Community Hall, in Big River, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to the Salvation Army or the Friends of the RCMP Heritage Centre, 5907 Dewdney Ave, Regina, SK S4T 9Z9.
