Ivan Karl Berg
April 22, 1927 – December 24, 2018
Ivan Karl Berg was born on the family farm along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River near Laird, Saskatchewan on April 22, 1927. His love of the land was formed during the seven years he lived on that farm prior to moving to Laird where he helped his parents first with the livery barn and butcher shop and then later with the dray. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Elnora Epp. Together they raised four children while juggling a farm and a teaching career.
Ivan enjoyed many things – horses, his farm, Chitek Lake, music, food, fishing, gardening, making sausage, and playing pinochle – but more than anything, he enjoyed people. He cherished his friends and often reminisced about the good times he had with them. Above all, he loved his family. Making his grandchildren laugh by tickling them, teasing them, pulling pranks, and concocting silly rhymes never got old. He was never happier than when he had his loved ones gathered around his table eating food he had more than likely both grown and prepared. His sense of humor, his tenacity – read stubborn as a mule – and his dedication and love for his family will be missed.
Ivan is predeceased by his parents William [Bill] and Alvina, his wife Elnora, older brother Willis and his wife Jean, as well as numerous Epp relatives. He leaves to mourn his children: Neil and Lynnda and their children Hilary (Alain), Karsten (Carol), and Courtney; Shelley and Darrell and their children Cleo (Kerry) and Tor; Robin and Ted and their children Peter, Jillian, and Ivanna [Anne]; Todd and Colette and their children Gabrielle, Matthew, William, and Bennett; his brother Floyd and wife Dora; in laws Orlando Epp and wife Margaret, Darlene Bergen, and Esther Epp; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Elsie Jaster and Jack and Karen Van Dyke.
