Isabel “Izzy” Richards
March 25, 1938- December 11, 2024
We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, Isabel Elsie Richards on December 11, 2024, at Pineview Nursing Home.
Isabel led a good life. She was born and raised in Shellbrook, SK. It was here she met and married Con Richards in 1957. In the beginning they started off with very little but had many good times. Together they enjoyed Con’s passion for cars, which endured throughout their 64 years of marriage.
They welcomed two daughters, Mitzi and Pamela. As a family we enjoyed good times at car shows, traveling to BC and Disneyland and spending time at the cabin. “Izzy” enjoyed traveling and took trips to Hawaii, Scotland, Florida, and Mexico. She and Con loved adventures, taking a trip to Nova Scotia to see Peggy’s Cove, traveling onward to watch a space launch at Cape Canaveral. Their adventures even included completing a wagon trek in 1983 with hundreds of covered wagons from Prince Albert to Nesbit Landing near Duck Lake.
Izzy worked along side Con in his many business ventures, all while being a mom and homemaker. She was good at multi-tasking and being flexible, taking off on an adventure with a minutes notice! She seamlessly managed the family and the business.
Izzy was known to enjoy sports either as a participant or an observer. She loved to golf, bowl, jetski and go ice fishing. As an observer, she held season tickets for many years to watch the Prince Albert Raiders. When the grandchildren arrived, she attended every single soccer game, cheering them on from the stands. She loved being “Nana” to all her grandchildren!
She suffered a severe accident in 2013, requiring her to be transported by the new air ambulance service called “Stars”. She proved to be a resilient if not miraculous lady. She survived unimaginable injuries and lived to enjoy life.
Family and friends remember her for her laughter and kindness during difficult times. She was known for her trifle dessert and home made buns. She took up drawing later in life and proved to be a natural. However, she will be forever known for her hundreds of Santa’s that she collected!
Izzy passed suddenly while enjoying what she loved, Christmas and all it’s festivities. After struggling with dementia over the past year, she is now at peace and joining “Con” and all the family and friends who passed before her.
Isabel is survived by her daughters, Mitzi (Ryzard) Pytlak and Pamela (Darcy) Richards-Turton; her grandchildren, Natasha (Zach) Smith, Dominik (Maggie) Pytlak-Strauss, Justin (Morgan) Pytlak; and two great-grandchildren Oliver and Arlo.
As per Isabel’s wishes no formal services will be held and a private memorial will take place at a later date.
