On January 5, 2021, our loving husband, father and Gido passed away at home, surrounded by the warm embrace of his family.
Irwin was born and raised in Prince Albert and after high school, he attended the U of S and graduated with his B. Ed. He went on to teach for a few years before realizing that teaching and farming proved to be a difficult balance.
Dad then accepted a position and later became a funeral director – working alongside friend Don Moriarty in operating MacKenzie’s Funeral Home. In 1993, Dad established Hawryluk Funeral Home and with the assistance of his amazing staff would go on to serve the Blaine Lake and Parkland Districts for 20 years before retiring from the business in 2013. The funeral home profession was a true calling for Dad – he took immense pride in his work and was honoured to serve thousands of families over his 40 years in the profession.
For all of his life, Dad farmed alongside his wife, Ethel, father, Paul and cousin, Ron. He had the help of his son, Tim, and hired man, Arnold Brewster, and the wonderful support of many neighbours and family. Dad was a master farmer who took great satisfaction from a day’s hard work and he so enjoyed a bountiful harvest. While Dad enjoyed much success in business and farming – his ultimate passion was his family.
Anyone who had interacted with Dad on almost any level would immediately learn of the immense love that he had for his family and the considerable pride that he took in their accomplishments. He so cherished visits and get togethers, summer holidays at our family cabin at Candle Lake and family vacations. We have so many wonderful memories of family trips to Disneyland, Mexico and Fairmont Hot Springs in BC.
In recent years, Dad so enjoyed sitting in his rocking chair on his front porch with Mom – visiting over coffee and watching their sprinklers turn. Dad and Mom had a special relationship and no matter the endeavor, whether family, business or farm – they always worked together and in support of one another. We are so proud of the legacy that Dad (and Mom) have left for us.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his life is his wife, Ethel (nee: Oleksyn); children Tim (Jamie) Hawryluk and Chloe and Allie; Lisa (Dean) Nahachewsky and Molly and Maksym; Larisa (Manny) Reis and Lola, Cruz, Jett, Bella and Boh; sisters Diane (Wally) Bazowski; Bonnie Hawryluk; Sonya (Terry) Leeb; Carol (John) Gross; special cousin Ron (Rosa) Hawryluk; aunts Helen Hawryluk and Grace LeGatt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Olga Hawryluk.
Public viewings will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at River Park Funeral Home between 2-4pm and on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Saskatoon between 12-1:30pm.
