Date of Passing: November 13, 2025
IRMA TULLY, formerly of Prince Albert, SK, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 13, 2025, at the age of 88.
She was born on April 5, 1937, the fifth of six children to Theodor and Christine Boepple, in Bessarabia, a German settlement now belonging to Ukraine. When World War II broke out in 1939, she was only two years old. During the war years, their family experienced displacement, the loss of her oldest brother, and separation from their father. Their very capable mother wisely kept moving their family from place to place, ahead of the war and mom was always grateful to the man who risked his life to smuggle their family into West Germany. The war ended in 1945. During her formative years, she received a grade 8 education and developed her strong Christian faith. They were reunited with their father in 1949. Being refugees in Germany, at the age of 17, she along with her parents immigrated to Canada on May 13, 1954. Their placement was to the J.W. Lee Tully farm in Curtis Siding, MB, where she worked in the fields and cooked for the Tully family and the hired help.
On November 17, 1956, she married her husband of 53 years, Kalman Tully. Together they farmed in the Newton Siding area from 1958 – 1998, built a home and raised their four children. As a farmer’s wife, she spent hours cutting grass, gardened, preserved many vegetables and fruit, cooked, mended, and cleaned. She taught us that there is a place for everything and everything in its place. She was not a fancy cook, but believed in making nutritious meals with lots of variety and plenty of it. She tied thousands upon thousands of pounds of asparagus, drove meals out to the men working in the fields, helped dad with the cattle, and was available to help wherever needed on the farm. Dad acknowledged had it not been for our mom. he would not have enjoyed the success he had throughout his lifetime. Her wisdom, practicality, dedication, and hard work allowed him to attain many of his dreams. Due to our dad’s failing health, they moved to Portage la Prairie on November 17, 2006 (their 50th Wedding Anniversary). Her devotion to our dad meant he was loved and cared for until his passing in 2009.
Mom moved to Prince Albert, SK, in 2013, where she made her home until her passing.
Our mother considered her life to be an incredible journey. She often quoted Proverbs 16:9, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Mom was a very hard worker: an industrious and determined person, and through her many attributes, contributed to our family success.
She often felt inadequate because of her lack of education, but that didn’t stop her from teaching herself to speak, read, and write in English. She kept many journals, meticulous records, and wrote her biography to be cherished by her family. She had a servant’s heart as she taught Sunday School for about 30 years, participated in and led Bible Studies, was very active in the church, worked alongside our Dad at Gideon Banquets and helped distribute Bibles. She opened her home and made meals for many people from all walks of life. She had a passion for crafting and when time permitted spent countless hours knitting and crocheting. Throughout her lifetime, she lovingly made items not only for family and friends, but for her local community as well as thousands of her handmade crafts (mittens, infant hats, teddy bears and Izzy dolls) being distributed to many impoverished regions around the world. She had no idea of the inspiration and encouragement she was to people near and far.
Left to carry on her legacy are her four children; Susan (Jim), Eric (Valerie), Barb (Brad), and Aaron (Louise); 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Hulda and Wilma; and her brother, Gerhard. Irma was predeceased by her brother, Oskar (1944), her husband, Kal (2009), and sister Else (2021).
The family would like to thank the Rose Garden Hospice doctors and staff for their excellent and loving care of our mom during her final days. She often marvelled at God’s provision and guidance throughout her lifetime. It was Irma’s request that there be no funeral service. There will be a private interment for her four children and their families at a later date.
